INTRODUCTION
This morning we give thanks for the lives of all those saints who have lived and died, and especially for
those dear to us.
We affirm that our relatives and friends who have died in faith are not forgotten and that they are known
to, loved by and cared for by God. We believe that as we entrust our lives to God so we may look forward
to being one day reunited with them.
Opening Hymn: 80 “Great is thy faithfulness”
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with Thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not
as thou hast been thou for ever wilt be.

Since we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses,

The Lesson: Revelation 7: 9-17
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all
tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with
palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
‘Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’
And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they
fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, singing,
‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honour
and power and might
be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.’
Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, ‘Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come
from?’ I said to him, ‘Sir, you are the one that knows.’
Then he said to me,
‘These are they who have come out of the great ordeal;
they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
For this reason they are before the throne of God,
and worship him day and night within his temple,
and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.
They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;

nor any scorching heat;

Congratulations to Revd Jack and to Rachael Kinkead on the birth of their
daughter, Aodhla Sibéal. She is the first baby to live in the Rectory within
living memory (but perhaps not the last!).

Our thoughts and prayers are with Nicola Neumann and the Tottenham
family following the death of Frances (Mick). She was a Select Vestry
member. She loved nature and was a talented artist who helped decorate
the church and advised on tree planting in the graveyard.

The Parish is facing a significant drop in income levels this year due to the
cancellation of its main fundraising event and reduced monies from church
collections during lockdown. One method of assisting parish finances would
be to join in the Planned Giving arrangements which are set out below.

Please consider renewing or beginning your financial commitment to
Killiskey Parish by way of Planned Giving. By doing this you can maximise
the amount of money received by the Parish and greatly assist the Parish
to meet its financial commitments. Planned Giving is making a pledge to
donate an amount of money regularly over the course of the year whether
weekly, monthly, quarterly or by a single donation. Under the tax
regulations, the Parish, as a registered charity, can obtain a tax refund
from the government for recorded donations from tax payers (PAYE and
Self-Assessment) who contribute a minimum of €250 in the tax year. This
is the equivalent of €4.81 per week. The parish can claim a further approx.
45% of the amount donated from the government. Cash donations on the
plate, while very gratefully received, are not eligible for a tax refund. If you
are contributing more than €250 over the course of the year through this
method, you might like to consider Planned Giving.
Planned Giving can be done in any one of the following ways:
*The envelope system enables parishioners to donate regular cash
amounts which can be recorded for tax refund purposes. Envelopes can be
obtained from the churchwardens.
*By setting up a standing order with your bank for a minimum donation of
€5 per week (or monthly or quarterly equivalent).
*A donation or donations totalling at least €250 can be made directly to
the Parish Treasurer, Scott Golden, Malvern House, The Glebe, Wicklow
Town.

Due to the imposition of Level 5 restrictions, the confirmation services
planned for November cannot now take place. Please remember candidates
in your prayers as they look forward to re-scheduling.

The Hub is once more closed due to restrictions. The good news is that it
is a safe space as the necessary precautions are in place.

As winter and shorter daylight hours approach, we all need to seek
positivity during this second period of significant restrictions. The great
outdoors will once again provide solace for many. Gardening is a
wonderful panacea in a turbulent world and additionally can provide food
for the larder. Reconnecting with the land proved a big hit in the first
Lockdown, let it happen again this winter; feeling the earth in one’s hands
really helps to keep people grounded. Nature can also act as a soothing
balm; we all heard and saw great stories of this in the spring. While
always remaining within 5km of your home, you could visit a local park or
wood, stroll along a beach, walk along your local road, looking carefully all
around you – a wide array of wildlife is there to be seen. Birds can also be
attracted into our gardens, by hanging up bird feeders (seed and feeders
can be delivered straight to your door by ordering on-line, e.g. from
BirdWatch Ireland in Kilcoole). A dull grey day can be brightened up by
the antics of colourful goldfinches, blue, great and coal tits and many
other species competing for food. Some lucky households will even be
blessed with the presence of great spotted woodpeckers. Enjoy!

Welcome in the name of Christ. God’s grace, mercy, and peace be with you.

PREPARATION

In a world where fear can hold us back, we face the future with confidence in God’s presence.

As God’s people we have gathered. Let us worship together. Amen.

 

PENITENCE

We come to God as one from whom no secrets are hidden, to ask for his forgiveness and peace.

Let us admit to God the sin which always confronts us:

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have wandered and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things that we ought to have done; and we have done those things that we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us sinners. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to humankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may live a disciplined, righteous and godly life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

A READING

Revelation 13:11-18

Then I saw another beast that rose out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and it makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed. It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of all; and by the signs that it is allowed to perform on behalf of the beast, it deceives the inhabitants of earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet lived; and it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could even speak and cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell who does not have the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred and sixty-six.
