GREETING
The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you
And also with you.
PREPARATION
Faithful God, who is known in Trinity: Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit, we come before you now in worship and
praise and thanksgiving. Open our hearts to receive you,
our minds to learn of you, and our lips to praise you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PENITENCE
Christ the light of the world has come to dispel the
darkness. Together, let us confess our sins.
Silence is kept for one minute
Let us admit to God the sin which always confronts us:
Lord God, we have sinned against you; we have done
evil in your sight. We are sorry and repent. Have
mercy on us according to your love. Wash away our
wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin. Renew a
right spirit within us and restore us to the joy of your
salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the God of love and power forgive you and free
your from your sins, heal and strengthen you by the
Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,

The First Reading: Acts 2: 42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the
believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to
anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread
in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all
the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

The Second Reading: 1 Peter 2: 19-25
For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious
of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you
suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called,
because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead,
he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that
we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were
like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

The Gospel: John 10: 1-10
“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by
some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The
gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and
leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him
because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him
because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did
not understand what he was telling them.
Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before
me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through
me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill
and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

ACCLAMATION OF FAITH

PREPARATION
Beloved in Christ, we come together to offer to Almighty God
our worship and praise and thanksgiving, to confess our sins
and to receive God’s forgiveness, to hear God’s holy word
proclaimed, to bring our needs and the needs of the world, and
to pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit we may serve God
and know the greatness of God’s love.
PENITENCE
Let us confess our sins to God our Father.
Heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against
our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through
negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate
fault; by what we have done and by what we have failed to
do. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the
sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us, forgive us
all that is past; and grant that we may serve you in

MORNING PRAYER 1 – 14 JUNE 2020 THE FIRST SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

Opening Hymn: CH59 “New every morning is the love”(vs. 1-3, 5, 6) New every morning is the love our wakening and uprising prove; through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life and power and thought.

New mercies, each returning day, hover around us while we pray; new perils past, new sins forgiven, new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.

If on our daily course our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice.

The trivial round, the common task, will furnish all we need to ask, room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God.

Only, O Lord, in thy dear love fit us for perfect rest above; and help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray.

A LESSON from the Old Testament
Exodus 19:2-8a After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. A LESSON from the New Testament
Romans 5: 1-8 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Hymn before the Gospel: CH662 “He who would valiant be” (Version 2) He who would valiant be ‘gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent his first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.

Matthew 9: 35 — 10: 8  Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.  CORONAVIRUS INTERCESSIONS God of Love,  we turn to you with prayerful hearts  and with confidence in your loving presence among us now  and in every moment of our lives.  We stand before you as a people of hope,  trusting in your care and protection.  May we be comforted by your love in these anxious times.

Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer.

Generous and Merciful God,  fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old;  that we may look after each other in these challenging times,  especially those among us who are vulnerable.  May your example give us the courage we need  to go to the margins, wherever they may be.  Heal us of our fear.

Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer.

Healing God,  bring healing to those who are sick with the Coronavirus  and be with their families and neighbours.  We pray especially who those who are isolated,  that they may know your love.  Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

INVITATION TO WORSHIP Let us worship the Trinity:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was, and is, and is to come! Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

PRAISE Let us pray: Father, we praise you; through your Word and Holy Spirit you created all things. You reveal your salvation in all the world by sending to us Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Through your Holy Spirit you give us a share in your life and love. Amen.

PENITENCE Father, you come to meet us when we return to you: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Ministry of the Word

The First Reading:  Isaiah 40: 12-17, 27-31 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,     or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,     or weighed the mountains on the scales     and the hills in a balance? Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord,     or instruct the Lord as his counselor? Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him,     and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge,     or showed him the path of understanding? Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;     they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust. Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires,     nor its animals enough for burnt offerings. Before him all the nations are as nothing;     they are regarded by him as worthless     and less than nothing. Why do you complain, Jacob?     Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord;     my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know?     Have you not heard? The Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All God’s people here send their greetings. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,  and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

COLLECT OF THE WORD God of heaven and earth, before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time you are the triune God: author of creation, eternal Word of salvation, life-giving Spirit of wisdom. Guide us to all truth by your Spirit, that we may proclaim all that Christ has revealed and rejoice in the glory he shares with us. Glory and praise to you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us make a statement of faith: We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is love.

We praise God the Father: who created the universe and keeps it in being. He has made us his sons and daughters to share his joy, living together in justice and peace, caring for his world and for each other.

We proclaim Jesus Christ, God the Son: born of Mary,  by the power of the Holy Spirit,  he became one of us, sharing our life and our death. He has made known God’s compassion and mercy, giving hope and declaring forgiveness of sin, offering healing and wholeness to all. By his death on the cross and by his resurrection, he has triumphed over evil. Jesus is Lord of life and all creation.

We trust God the Holy Spirit: who unites us to Christ, and gives life to the Church; who brings us to repentance and assures us of forgiveness.  The Spirit guides us in our understanding of the bible, renews us in the sacraments, and calls us to serve God in the world. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Let us sum up all our prayers and praises  in the words our Saviour Christ has taught us, saying: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Going out as God’s People

PRAYER Father, you sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of your life. Help us to worship you, one God in three persons, by proclaiming and living our faith in you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

BLESSING God the Holy Trinity  make you strong in faith and love,  defend you on every side,  and guide you in truth and peace:  and the blessing of God almighty the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be with you and remain with you always. Amen.

Re-opening Of Nun’s Cross Church

Based on the Government’s current roadmap, it is planned to re-open the church for public worship on 26th July. Richard Henderson and Michael Norman have recommended that no more than 60 people can be accommodated and still allow for social distancing of two metres. Only every alternative row will be made available. Thought is being given to a system of one way into and one way out of the church.

Easter General Vestry

In current circumstances, it is still not possible to hold an Easter General Vestry. The existing Select Vestry, including churchwardens and glebewardens, will remain in place. As soon as circumstances permit, the General Vestry meeting will be held and a new Select Vestry elected.

The Earth Breathes Again

The Covid19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on human lives / activities across the world. Sadly, many of us know people who have lost loved family members: we remember them. Conversely, as humanity suffers, so Mother Nature has had a much-needed reprieve from humankind’s relentless onslaught. The air is cleaner, clearer, purer, fresher. Ditto rivers, lakes, canals. Traffic noises have reduced and once again people are rejoicing in the wonders of hearing birdsong. Post lockdown, as activities pick up, maybe we can all try not to revert to our old frenetic lifestyles of non-stop travelling; down time has been appreciated by many, including children who are learning some of life’s skills and pleasures (e.g. cooking, gardening, reading). The climate change problems we faced before the pandemic haven’t gone away and still need addressing. We’ve shown that reducing human activities reduces pollution, emissions etc., so it is incumbent on us all to continue to cut back on our patterns of wasteful consumption – don’t buy what we don’t need, don’t travel when we don’t need to travel, consider holidaying in Ireland rather than abroad, reduce hugely the number of flights taken. Buy as much local produce as possible (while also benefitting our economy). Think environment!
